Information
Tarona (b. 1985, Curaçao) is a visual artist and director working
across film, photography and research. In her work, she examines how
memory and knowledge are maintained and shared within the Black
Diaspora. She investigates how this knowledge moves through gestures,
places, times, and materials, rather than being fixed in language or
narrative alone. She works across two registers: guided as much by intuition as by rigorous research, with feeling as a key part of her method.

Currently, I’m in full pre-production for the film. There are so many elements floating around that need to be fixed; the music, art direction in terms of design, collecting of materials, I still need to shoot the newssegment — and write the segment itself. Plus also, collect all materials and get in additional sound design!. Now that the premise of the story has taken shape, I am also thinking about many other elements, which I am also bringing people in for.
With that said, this daunting feeling of going through these archives to complete the story I am wanting to tell is only a fragment. I find myself thinking about what music to use and if I can get the licensing for that (this is now work in progress, finally!), what textual elements need to be added (work in progress), what does the world look like inside of the machine (work in progress), who should play the newsanchor? What copy does the newsanchor read?
I am simultaneously also considering the backstory of the time traveler who recorded all of these things. Are we not all time travelers as human beings, however? Perhaps, the time traveler is myself, moving through all these archives and connecting multiple planes across time, rhythm, movement, context and information timelines.
